Overview
A chemical peel involves the application of a solution to improve and smooth the texture of the facial skin by removing damaged outer layers. It is helpful for men and women with facial blemishes, wrinkles, and uneven skin pigmentation. The licensed aesthetician at the office of Scottsdale, AZ board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. John Williams, offers different types of peels ranging from light to moderate to deep treatments. Each treatment is customized to your particular skin type. Depending on the chemical peel that is chosen, there may be little to no visible peeling, and no downtime. Each peel at our office can be purchased individually or as a series for optimal results.

What to Expect
Our licensed aesthetician will provide pre-treatment instructions during the consultation and will select the best treatment plan for each patient. Sometimes Retin-A, a prescription medication derived from Vitamin A, is used to pre-treat the skin. A solution is applied using a sponge, cotton pad, cotton swab or brush to the areas to be treated (or the entire face, avoiding the eyes, brows and lips). After the peel, we will apply an after peel ointment to complete the treatment.
Chemical Peel Recovery
After a chemical peel, it is common to experience some temporary flaking or scaling, redness, and dryness of the skin. However, these conditions will disappear as the skin adjusts to treatment. Recommendations for after peel home treatment will be made from the multiple medical grade products that we offer in our office. To help aid healing, it is essential that patients follow these specific instructions. The use of sunscreen is strongly recommended after a chemical peel.
