Overview
Otoplasty, ear pinning and ear reshaping (all types of ear surgeries), involves reshaping the ears to look less prominent and/or more aesthetically pleasing. Men, women, and children often seek ear surgery for various reasons such as protruding ears, damaged ear lobes, congenital defects, correction of asymmetrical features, and more. Dr. Williams is highly skilled when it comes to ear surgery as he has over 20 years of surgical experience. If you are bothered by the shape of your ears, schedule a consultation today to see what can be done to improve your ear size, shape or position.
Best Candidates
Ear surgery can be performed on individuals of any age. Good candidates are men or women who demonstrate:
- Self-confidence issues because of the size or shape of their ears
- Protruding ears that stick out
- Large or oversized ears
- Under developed ear cartilage
- Torn earlobes due to heavy jewelry or ear trauma
What to Expect
Otoplasty begins with an incision behind the ear so that the cartilage can be exposed. This cartilage is then reshaped until the ear takes on a better appearance. Excess skin can also be removed.
If an earlobe needs to be repaired, the procedure can usually be performed in the office under local anesthesia with minimal downtime or discomfort.
John Williams, MD Plastic Surgery Reviews
Words can not express how truly happy I am with my whole experience! I have wanted this surgery for years, but never thought I would actually voluntarily have someone cut me open. Trust in someone to do that is HUGE! Dr. Williams put me at ease immediately. After meeting and speaking with Dr. Williams I knew I was in good hands! He explained the whole process and everything I should expect (good and bad). If I had known about him before I wouldn’t have waited so long! His whole staff is fantastic, especially Adriana! Thank you for EVERYTHING! It’s been a month, I know I have a long way to go till I’m all healed, but I am already so very happy with the results! If you are looking for a great surgeon look no further!
When you place yourself if the care of others, it’s nice to feel confident and safe. This is what I found in Dr. William’s office. He gives his professional opinion and lets you make an informed decision. Dr Williams also gives you options, helping you to feel your best. Stephanie, is the aesthetician who has been wonderful, she helps you to look better at any age. She explains the procedures and lets you decide what will work best for you. When she does a treatment she takes her time, explaining along the way what she is doing and why.Dr. Williams and his staff are truly “Scottsdale’s best”!
He is the nicest Dr out there! He’s just REAL. He won’t do anything that might not be good for your health. I appreciate that 🙏 He is gentle and kind
I purposely waited more than 365 days since my breast reduction surgery (July 29, 2023) to write this review so I could provide other potential patients with most thorough review possible about my breast reduction surgery experience with Dr. Williams. Simply put, five stars is not nearly enough -- I would give Dr. Williams 10 stars if I could. I had wanted this surgery for over 20 years (since having kids), and decided to finally go for it, but as someone who has never had an elective surgery, I wasn't sure how to choose a surgeon. I created an Excel spreadsheet and cross-compared more than 15 local surgeons who specialized in reductions, factoring in patient reviews on various web sites, before and after photos, availability, and price point -- I narrowed it down to Dr. Williams and a few others. But when I met Dr. Williams in person, it was settled for me because of how instantly comfortable I felt from the moment I walked in the door and met Adrianna to meeting Dr. Williams and discussing the surgery with him. I'm happy to say that isn't just an act to get you in the door ---- for EVERY SINGLE VISIT after that, to the day of my surgery, to my final post-surgery send-off, my experience with Dr. Williams was 100% impeccable and I can honestly say, flawless. He's not only a true artist, he's friendly, approachable, up front, honest, and clear about every step of the process and leaves nothing undiscussed or undisclosed -- even some of the gross details about the healing process I was squeamish to hear. I had struggled with body dysmorphia and insecurity about my large chest since breastfeeding my two kids and was constantly preoccupied with it and felt irritated about how much I had to adjust my life to accommodate it. It wasn't about "back pain" for me as much as it was dealing with painful rashes in the heat, difficulty breathing, feeling hindered when doing physical activity, and the inability to wear what I wanted. After the surgery, all of this insecurity instantly went away and I finally feel more comfortable in my body than I have in more than 20 years! I can honestly say it was worth every penny and I have not -- not even for a single second -- regretted my choice to get this surgery. It is honestly one of the best choices I have ever made!As advised, the healing process was uncomfortable and required a lot of patience and time. As advised, it has taken about a full year to fully heal, but I'm so happy to say that I finally feel healed and everything that was numb has woken back up! I do have some visible scars but they're not in any way unattractive and look so much better than expected. The shape and size of my breasts fits my body and frame beautifully and I feel like ME again.I would absolutely recommend Dr. Williams to anyone considering this specialized surgery. And if you're scared , that's OK. I was too! But it all worked out so much better than I could have even hoped. Thank you Dr. Williams for my amazing results -- I appreciate you!
Dr. Williams is an amazing surgeon! I've been a patient for 17 years, and would never trust anyone as much as I trust him. Adriana is wonderful too! She is great at communicaton and delivers great care to patients. #dreamteam

Recovery From Ear Surgery
Swelling and bruising can be minimal after otoplasty. The swelling and bruising will start to resolve during the first couple of weeks after surgery, although this will vary between patients. A head dressing is applied immediately after surgery and removed at the first office visit. An elastic headband must be worn for several more weeks for protection. Patients must avoid strenuous activity for a minimum of 1 – 2 months following surgery. Children will need to be monitored closely so that they do not pick or scratch at their ears during the healing phase.
