A chemical peel involves the application of a solution to improve and smooth the texture of the facial skin by removing damaged outer layers. It is helpful for men and women with facial blemishes, wrinkles, and uneven skin pigmentation. Phenol, Trichloroacetic acid (TCA) and alpha-hydroxy acids (AHAs) are used for this purpose. Scottsdale, AZ board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. John Williams, offers all three types of peels, which range from light, moderate to medium, and deep treatments, and use medical grade products from SkinMedica. Each treatment is customized to your particular skin type. Depending on the chemical peel that is chosen, there may be little to no visible peeling, and no downtime. Each peel at John Williams Plastic Surgery can be purchased individually or as a series for optimal results.
Chemical Peel Reviews
"I went to Dr Williams office for Botox for one area that I was concerned about and I was very happy with my treatment. Office is very nice, Dr Williams is very professional and listened to me. I also had dermaplane facial with aesthetician Stephanie Childers and she also did a great job! Very professional and caring, made me feel comfortable."- D.S. / Google / Sep 12, 2018
Chemical peels are structured for individuals of all skin types and colors. The best candidates for this treatment are those who:
- Are in overall good health
- Have fine wrinkles, mild hyperpigmentation, and diminished skin tone
- Have not used Accutane in the last two years
- Do not have specific dermatological medical conditions that would preclude peels
Types of Peels
Illuminize Peel - $100
This is our lightest, most superficial peel that is great for first timers. This peel will provide an instant enhancement of the skin’s appearance, immediately brightening and refreshing the skin. There is usually little to no visible peeling and no downtime. This is great for glowing skin before a special event, wedding, or party. It can be performed every 2 weeks.
Vitalize Peel - $150
Our mild to moderate peel, the Vitalize Peel, is designed to improve moderate sun damage, fine lines, wrinkles, blemishes, acne scars, and melasma. This peel produces predictable and noticeable results within 2 – 5 days of mild peeling. No downtime. We recommend a series of 3 – 6 peels every 3 – 4 weeks to see the best possible results.
Rejuvenize Peel - $225
Our strongest peel, the Rejuvenize Peel, is for more severe skin imperfections requiring greater clinical treatment. This peel will produce compelling results with moderate peeling lasting 2 – 5 days and minimal downtime. We recommend a series of 3 – 6 peels, done ever 4 – 6 weeks to see the best possible results.
Probiotic Youth Boost - $75
This mild peel uses a combination of dermaplaning and probiotics to treat fine lines and sun damage. The results are immediate, creating healthy-looking skin with smaller pores and a lustrous glow. This peel usually results in minor peeling and little to no downtime.
- Dermaplaning - $30
Dermaplaning is a noninvasive procedure that is used to remove fine facial hair and exfoliate the skin. This treatment can be performed with or without a chemical peel.
- Eye Rescue - $30
The TNS rejuvenating eye treatment is recommended for the delicate eye area and may help reduce the appearance of puffiness, dark circles, and fine lines.
- Hand or Foot Rescue - $25
This treatment helps with dry, flaky, or cracked skin on the hands and feet. A gentle exfoliation and moisturizing with paraffin will leave hands or feet feeling soft and smooth.
What to Expect
We will provide pre-treatment instructions during the consultation. The vast majority of chemical peels may be safely performed in our office. Our trained aesthetician will select the best chemical or chemical mix for the individual patient. Sometimes Retin-A, a prescription medication derived from Vitamin A, is used to pre-treat the skin, especially if a TCA peel is going to be used. The Retin-A thins out the skin’s surface layer, allowing the TCA solution to penetrate more deeply and evenly. Hydroquinone, a bleaching agent, is sometimes used in conjunction with Retin-A, especially if a patient has blotchy areas or pigmentation problems. A solution is applied using a sponge, cotton pad, cotton swab or brush to the areas to be treated (or the entire face, avoiding the eyes, brows and lips). After the peel, we will apply an after peel ointment to complete the treatment.
Chemical Peel Recovery
After a chemical peel, it is common to experience some temporary flaking or scaling, redness, and dryness of the skin. However, these conditions will disappear as the skin adjusts to treatment. After a TCA peel, we may prescribe a mild pain medication to relieve any tingling or mild discomfort. TCA peels may cause some swelling depending the strength of the peel used. An after-peel ointment will be applied to the face and patients will be instructed on the frequency of application of this ointment as part of the post-op home care. To help aid healing, it is essential that patients follow these specific instructions. The use of sunscreen is strongly recommended after a chemical peel. NIA24® 100% Mineral sunscreen offers effective protection. Additionally, other NIA24® skin therapy products provide excellent protection and maintenance of the new, healthy skin.
