Scottsdale, AZ board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. John Williams, has special skills in body contouring and fat removal, specifically for the upper arm. An arm lift, also known as brachioplasty, uses a diverse range of innovative cosmetic surgical techniques to remove excess skin and fat deposits from the upper arm. Maturing skin may droop on the arms or the skin may hang due to the patient having lost weight. In order to lift the arm, an incision is typically made from under the elbow along the inner arm to the upper arm. Dr. Williams may use a combination of techniques, such as liposuction, for greater success. Patients requesting an arm lift may inquire about other surgeries performed at the same time as the arm lift.

"I could not be happier with my experience with Dr. Williams. He and his staff were absolutely wonderful from my initial consult to my final post op! Not to mention he's an amazing surgeon. I would highly recommend him!"- A.S. / Facebook / Aug 25, 2017
"My experience with Dr. John Williams was the most amazing experience I've had. Out of all the Plastic Surgeons I have seen in the past, he by far was the best decision I ever made. The first time I seen him, there was no other choice to see another Plastic Surgeon, My decision was made right away. I have to say that him and his wonderful office staff made me feel so comfortable and at home from the moment I called the office just to set up a consultation to the last time I seen him. Nicole and Mckenna were so amazing! After about 9 years to finally decide to get implants, Dr. Williams changed my life forever. I absolutely recommend him to everyone and if you are still trying to decide then at least make an appointment to go and talk to him. I want to say a big Thank You to Dr. Williams for helping me become more self confident and that you changed my life."- J.S. / Yelp / Aug 21, 2017
"Dr. Williams and his staff were incredible, they made everything about the surgery experience easy to understand and I felt respected, listened to, and cared about at every step of the process."- M.S. / Google / Aug 14, 2017
"It's been 3 months since I had my "mommy makeover" which at my age is really a "grandmommy makeover!" Dr. Williams did a fantastic job, from my first consultation he and his staff made me feel extremely comfortable about the entire process. My biggest concern was that at age 55 looking like I had a "boob job." I wanted to look more like I did prior to having children, Dr. Williams and Jennifer worked with me to select the correct procedure & implant size to look completely natural. I could not be happier with my new tummy and having my breasts back where they belong. I can't say enough about how great everyone at the office is and how happy I am with my results."- D.B. / Google / Jul 31, 2017
The best candidates for an arm lift procedure are men or women who have loose and hanging skin from the underside of the upper arm. This skin keeps these individuals from wearing short sleeves or fitting clothing. Patients must be at or near their goal weight, and their weight loss should be stabilized. This surgery is not reserved for weight loss patients alone. Aging and gravity can also have a negative effect on the arms. Patients who are in good health and wish to have their arms toned and tightened may also consider this procedure.
What to Expect
The goal of a brachioplasty procedure is to result in a toned upper arm appearance. Our talented surgeon will evaluate the skin quality and looseness and determine how much fat, tissue and skin should be removed to attain the results the patient desires. The length of the incision made during surgery will vary; patients who have healthy skin tone may only require a minor incision. Massive weight loss patients that present with excessively loose and hanging skin will require a more extensive approach. During surgery, the excess skin is trimmed and removed, and the underlying muscles are tightened. An armpit lift is sometimes incorporated during this procedure for patients who have additional skin and fat deposits within the armpit.
Swelling is expected after brachioplasty surgery although this varies between patients. The swelling starts to resolve during the first 1-2 weeks after surgery. A compression garment or sleeve will usually be needed to control this swelling and help keep the skin and tissue firmly protected. Most patients can resume modest arm activity in 3-4 weeks, with a complete recovery occurring in about 4-6 weeks. While scarring is unfortunately a part of this procedure, the incision resides under the arm so that it is not as noticeable. Our doctor will provide a scar treatment plan so that the incision heals in a healthy and quick manner.
